This test was replaced with the GDPR test in October 2018.
What is it?
This test looks at whether the website is in possible violation of the so-called Cookie Law (more formally, the “EU ePrivacy Law”) which came into effect from May 26th 2011.
Why it matters
If your website does any business with EU customers, this law impacts your website. Google and many other companies require that you comply with the law if you use many of their services, such as AdWords.
Future privacy legislation, such as the GDPR, builds upon this law and will likely entail similar compliance requirements.
How to use it
The first tab of this test (“Cookies”) lists any cookies that were detected when exploring this website. Where possible, Insites will classify these cookies by whatever used them, e.g. Google Analytics, or a specific CMS.
If pages are listed under the second tab, you should add a disclaimer to those pages.
This test cannot detect cookies which are only set after specific user actions, e.g. logging in, unless those actions were defined as a user journey.
Insites can only detect known cookie law solutions, and common signs of a custom cookie law solution. Generally detection of these is best in English, and will be less reliable in other languages.
